The Samba Parade is something everybody should experience at least once in their life. The event is broadcast live to several countries. Watching on TV is comfortable but not close to as much fun as being there. Definitely mingle with the crowds and watch the Brazilians and Cariocas (the people of Rio). For the best and full blown experience, you can even march with a samba school.
Rio Samba Parade
The Rio Samba Parade is not a street happening where people move chaotically about as they like, but more of a highly orchestrated show of vast proportions.

  • the samba tunes, which are especially written for that year are mesmerizing and the richly decorated floats and costumes of their 3,000 to 5,000 parading members are stunning !

Viradouro Samba School float

The costumes are extremely imaginative, colorful, elaborate and detailed. They are truly original, designed and made from scratch each year. They have mirrors, feathers, metallic cloth, silk and sometimes gems or coins. These costumes take months to make. The work starts roughly 8 months in advance.
Each samba school has its own distinctive colors (of its flag) and costume style. The color scheme is reflected in many parts of their parade.

The biggest and most elaborate costumes are worn by the main floatees (destaques), members chosen with honor by the samba schools to wear these special costumes.
Even though complete nudity is not officially allowed, sometimes floats carry topless or almost-naked beauties, male and female, wearing only body paint, lots of glitter and a smile.
You may think of the whole event as a tropical opera or rather like several operas happening on one night. It is beautiful to watch and the experience for the paraders themselves is so intense that the memories last for a lifetime

The Samba Parade is a really glorious competition for which the scores are given by the judges

Full Day tour to the Meeting of the Waters -  Depart from the floating dock in downtown Manaus, cruise down the Rio Negro and passing by the busy harbor of Manaus where large ships load and unload, watching the daily  life of the people who live on the river side. Continue the cruise until the meeting of the waters to admire the meeting of the black waters of the Rio Negro with the light brown waters of the Solimões, giving birth to the mighty Amazon River. For miles and miles these waters flow side by side, yet amazingly, without mixing.

At the Meeting of the Waters, the two rivers can be seen distinctly divided by their colors, making for an absolutely riveting sight, one that is not to be missed.

We will also visit January Lake, an ecological park located between the two rivers and have the opportunity to see giant Amazonian water lilies "Victoria Regia".

Then, you will enjoy a canoe ride through the narrow channels (called igarape) and flooded forest (igapo) of the tropical Amazonian rainforest. Lunch included.

Saturday March 12th –This morning we will enjoy a tour of spectactular Iguazu Falls.

Taller than Niagara Falls, twice as wide with 275 cascades spread in a horsehoe shape over nearly two miles of the Iguazu River, Iguazú Falls are the result of a volcanic eruption which left yet another large crack in the earth. During the peak months of activity at the falls, November - March, the rate of flow of water going over the falls may reach 450,000 cubic feet (12,750 cubic m) per second.

These matter of fact details do nothing to describe the grandeur of the falls, the tremendous amount of water (an average of 553 cubic feet per second) thundering down 269 feet, the tropical location and the sheer beauty that led Eleanor Roosevelt to say Poor Niagara. Four times the width of Niagara Falls, Iguazu Falls are divided by various islands into separate waterfalls. One of the best known is Devil's Throat, or Gargantua del Diablo with its perpetual spray high over the falls. Other notable falls are the San Martin, Bossetti, and Bernabe Mendez. Iguazú Falls, called Foz do Iguaçu in Portuguese, and Cataratas del Iguazú in Spanish, lie on the Argentina - Brazil border and are a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.

The waterfall system consists of about 270 falls along 2.7 kilometers (1.67 miles) of the Iguazu River. Some of the individual falls are up to 82 meters (269 feet) in height, though the majority of them are about 64 meters (210 feet). The Garganta del Diablo or Devil's Throat (Garganta do Diabo in Portuguese), a U-shaped 150-meter-wide and 700-meters-long (490 by 2300 feet) cliff, is the most impressive of all, and marks the border between Argentina and Brazil. Most of the falls are within Argentine territory, but from the Brazilian side a more panoramic view of the Garganta del Diablo is obtained. Many islands split up the falls, including several large ones.

We will enjoy a guided walking tour of the falls, providing spectacular up close views and an unforgettable experience.

After our tour, we will be transferred back to our hotel for the afternoon at leisure to enjoy optional excursions such as visit to the bird sanctuary, a jeep safari, a zipline excursion or an excursion across the border to walk along the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls, or just relax at our hotel poolside.

Enjoy our final evening relaxing at leisure to enjoy the piano bar’s live entertainment at our hotel.

Sunday March 13th  - This morning we will be transferred to the airport for our nonstop flight to Rio.

On arrival we will be met by our local representative and transferred to our chartered coach for an excursion to famed Sugarloaf Mountain.

Our tour will drive along Rio's famous beaches to the Praia Vermelha (Red Beach) cable car station where we will be taken to the Urca Mountain (mid-way station) with its gardens and lookout points. Then, the second part of the ride will take you to the peak of the Sugar Loaf Mountain, 1300 ft above sea level to enjoy a view of Rio de Janeiro, Guanabara Bay and its beaches.
